Gonder shelter was officially opened in May 2019 in the presence of pre-existing and potential partners, government officials, and associations alike both from Addis Ababa and Gondor. This shelter has been established in Gonder with the assistance of donors, namely Expert France and SIHA, to help illegal migrant women by giving training and reintegrating them to establish small businesses. Recently, several migrant returnees have been provided with accommodation services, basic business skills and life skills training, and reintegrated and reunified with their families.
The launch beyond publicizing the existence of the shelter also created awareness regarding the prevalence of trafficking and illegal migration within the region, the roles played by different community members in the fight against this epidemic and how to consolidate efforts to better strengthen the work that is being done.
